Franklin County Gearing Up For Fundraiser To Support Local Veterans

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County Commissioners are looking forward to the 8th Annual Franklin County Veterans Affairs Golf Tournament Aug. 30 at Penn National Golf Club, Fayetteville. As the department's largest single fundraiser, the tournament enables the Veterans Affairs office to provide services that improve the quality of life for the more than 13,000 veterans who call Franklin County home and their families.

While this year's tournament is at capacity for players, the county welcomes sponsorships and prize donations. All proceeds from the event benefit the Franklin County Veterans Affairs Outreach Fund, which supports a variety of programs, including:

  • The Operation Save-a-Vet, Save-a-Pet a service dog program;
  • Operation Rucks to Reins, an equine riding program through the Franklin County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Center;
  • Franklin County MilitaryShare, held in partnership with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to provide fresh, nutritious food to over 1,200 residents free of charge each month;
  • Focus Photography, a therapeutic photography program;
  • Franklin County Veterans Affairs Outdoor Coalition, which introduces veterans to outdoor pursuits like hunting, fishing, hiking and rafting;
  • A free medical shuttle service through rabbittransit that transports veterans once a week to VA facilities in Hagerstown, Maryland, and Martinsburg, West Virginia; and
  • The annual "We Salute You" scholarship for high school seniors.

All Franklin County Veterans Affairs office programs and initiatives are funded fully through its outreach fund and are offered to veterans at no cost. Donations to the Franklin County Veterans Affairs Golf Tournament and outreach fund are tax-deductible contributions.

This year's tournament will feature two sold-out flights of golf in the morning on both courses at Penn National and, for the first time, an additional 100 golfers playing on Iron Forge in the afternoon. The event also includes in-game contests, raffles and a $50,000 hole-in-one contest.
