BEATRICE, Neb. - Attention kids of all ages! Come to the Education Center at Homestead National Historical Park on Saturday, July 13 at 10 a.m. and join us in a ranger-led activity as we discover the plants on the prairie. We'll take a short hike on the prairie and discuss some uses of native plants. Afterward, we'll decorate a flowerpot and plant seeds that will grow into a plant to take home. All participants earn a Junior Ranger badge. Of course, the event is FREE!

During the homestead era, people relied on prairie plants for things they needed. From food to clothing, house-building materials to medications, knowing which plants to use meant the difference between success and failure. Do you know what leaf to boil into tea if you have a headache? Come along as we look at just a few examples. We hope to be outside for this activity so come dressed for the weather! Sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended.

For more information on available accommodations please contact Accessibility Coordinator, Amber Kirkendall at (402) 223-3514.
