Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision

Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Division are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect responsible for a hit-and-run traffic collision that killed a man.

On July 5, 2024, around 12:45 a.m., the victim was outside his residence on the 700 block of 97th Street, celebrating the 4th of July holiday, when an unknown suspect entered the victim's truck. The suspect fled west on 97th Street, driving the victim's truck, as the victim held onto the bed of the truck. The suspect failed to stop at a posted stop sign at 97th Street and Vermont Avenue, then collided with another vehicle traveling north on Vermont Avenue. The suspect exited the truck and fled the scene on foot, west 97th Street from Vermont Avenue, without stopping, identifying themselves, or attempting to render aid as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the victim deceased at scene. The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Josue Roman Orona, a resident of Los Angeles.

The suspect is described as male, with curly or bushy hair, wearing dark clothing.
