A solid foundation in science, technology, engineering and math is critical to success in school and future careers.
For utility professionals, STEM concepts fuel critical thinking skills and help develop innovative solutions to everyday energy practices. Our goal is to make STEM education accessible and engaging, preparing students for the evolving world.
From preschool to high school, educators work to instill a passion for STEM in students.
Through partnerships with schools and local organizations, we promote access to hands-on experience of STEM concepts. One such opportunity is Junior Achievement's 3DE program. Students applied STEM concepts to solve problems and develop an innovative solution for their project. This included coaching and a day at I&M's Northeast Service Center. Additional opportunities just within I&M's service area have been made possible by the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Fort Wayne Urban League, Elkhart Education Foundation and more.
With support from the American Electric Power Foundation, the FIRST Robotics grants also provides support for STEM education. Grants help robotics teams compete at local, regional and international levels, where they learn teamwork, critical thinking and technical skills.
Meanwhile, the Teacher Vision grant is designed to improve academic achievement with a focus on STEM, electrical safety and the balanced study of energy and the environment.
