Brazilian Condemnation of Attempted Coup in Bolivia

The Brazilian Government condemns in the strongest terms the ongoing attempted coup d'état in Bolivia, which involves the irregular mobilization of army troops, posing a clear threat to the democratic rule of law in the country.

The Brazilian Government expresses its support and solidarity with President Luis Arce and the Bolivian Government and people. In this context, it will maintain permanent dialogue with the legitimate Bolivian authorities and the Governments of other South American countries to repudiate this serious violation of Bolivia's constitutional order and reaffirm its commitment to the full exercise of democracy in the region. These events are incompatible with Bolivia's commitments under MERCOSUR, under the auspices of the Ushuaia Protocol.
