JJC Horticulture Receives American Floral Endowment Grant

Nov 05, 2024

Joliet Junior College's (JJC) horticulture department has received $3,500 in grant funding from the American Floral Endowment (AFE). This will provide financial support for JJC's floral design students to attend the Great Lakes Floral and Event Expo next semester.

"This opportunity is invaluable for their professional and personal development," said Lisa Perkins, JJC floral design instructor. "Our students will be able to engage with experts in the floral industry, participate in design workshops and broaden their horizons through networking. The JJC horticulture department and floral design program truly appreciate the AFE's commitment to fostering educational growth."

The Great Lakes Floral and Event Expo happens annually in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In addition to networking and participating in workshops, the convention also includes a floral design competition. In 2024, three JJC students competed, including Abbey Thumm, who placed third in the college division.

The American Floral Endowment is a charitable organization that aims to advance floriculture through research, scholarships, internships and grants.
