Bavaria’s Minister-President Dr. Markus Söder congratulates MTU Aero Engines on the company’s anniversary

| Sustainability and safety go hand in hand at MTU

| Extensive investments in technologies, production facilities and geothermal energy

Munich, July 16, 2024 | This year, engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines is celebrating its 90th anniversary of the company. What began in Munich as a spin-off from BMW for the independent production of aircraft engines has long since developed into one of the key players in the global aviation industry. On this occasion, Bavaria's Minister President Dr. Markus Söder personally conveyed his congratulations.

"High-tech made in Bavaria: In the commercial sector, MTU is a true pioneer in noise reduction and environmentally friendly engines. Climate protection can only be achieved with people and technology, not against them," says Minister-President Dr. Markus Söder. "In the military sector, MTU is one of the foundations of our security. The 'Zeitenwende' must not be allowed to fizzle out: That is why Germany must invest more money in security and its armed forces - but reliably and for the long term. We stand by the European air defense system FCAS. Development must now move to the next stage."

MTU is well positioned and will continue to shape the growth of aviation in the future: with its participation in the European air defense system FCAS and with leading roles in the development of revolutionary, increasingly low-emission propulsion concepts. With this in mind and against the backdrop of its eventful history, MTU assumes its responsibility for people and the environment - and at the same time facilitates global encounters and worldwide economic activity.

Today, more than 12,000 people from 88 nations work at 18 MTU locations worldwide. We stand for tolerance and cohesion. Diversity and inclusion are values we live by as a matter of course. "Because our mission is clear: we are shaping the future of aviation. Over nine decades, expertise and passion have made the company a global player in the engine industry," says Lars Wagner, CEO of MTU.

"Sustainability and safety go hand in hand for us: on the one hand, we have a clear vision of emission-free commercial aviation. A key element of this are highly efficient engines, using sustainable, alternative fuels. We are also working on revolutionary concepts such as the flying fuel cell - with hydrogen as the energy source. On the other hand, our military products make a significant contribution to a defensible democracy and community of values."

During a tour of the plant, the Minister-President was given a comprehensive overview of the current investments in Munich: MTU is currently investing heavily in the Munich site with new state-of-the-art production facilities, a development center and a data center. MTU also officially opened a new production hall at the beginning of July. The production facility is the most modern automated production hall for turbine disks in the world. From winter 2025/26, MTU will supply the site with sustainable heating energy from deep underground using its own geothermal plant.
