Dr. Donna Emanuele with the Pomona National Nurse Practitioner Week proclamation.WesternU College of Graduate Nursing Associate Professor and Director of the DNP and ENP programs Donna M. Emanuele, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, ENP-C, CNS, FAANP, requested the city of Pomona recognize NP Week. On Oct. 16, Pomona Mayor Tim Sandoval presented Dr. Emanuele with a proclamation declaring Nov. 10-16 as National Nurse Practitioner Week in Pomona.
Every year there is a call to recognize National Nurse Practitioner Week to honor and celebrate Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and acknowledge their contributing work as health care providers and system leaders for improving the quality, safety, and health care outcomes addressing care of disproportionately affected and at-risk populations; patient safety and quality; prevention and health promotion; better care, better health, lower cost-per-capita; translating research to practice; and advancing the profession/image of nursing, Emanuele said.
Nurse practitioners are one of the fastest growing segments in the health care workforce, with a projected employment growth of 40 % from 2021 to 2031, according to 2023 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, said CGN Dean Mary Lopez, PhD, MSN, RN.
"With an aging population and a greater focus on preventive care, the need for health care services is rising," Lopez said. "NPs are well-positioned to meet these needs due to their training in both primary and specialty care. There has never been a better time to be a nurse practitioner."
