Southwestern Outdoor Adventure recently traveled to Canyon Lake Gorge in Canyon Lake, Texas to explore the geology of the Texas Hill Country first-hand through visible faults. Led by Assistant Director for Outdoor Adventure Brannon Bargo, a group of Southwestern students saw ancient fossils, cretaceous limestone, and even dinosaur footprints estimated to be 110 million years old. While hiking across the 64-acre site, the group learned how the Trinity Aquifer's underground permeable rock cavities soak up, store, and move rainwater that many Central Texans depend on for drinking water and irrigation.
