September 3, 2024- Houston police are investigating an incident in which an off-duty Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy discharged his duty weapon at a burglary suspect at 11212 Westpark Drive about 4:55 a.m. on Monday (Sept. 2).

The male suspect is not believed to have been struck by the gunfire and remains at large.

The Harris County Sheriff's deputy who discharged his duty weapon was not injured.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives M. Estep and V. Lewis reported:

The off-duty deputy was alerted by an alarm on his vehicle parked in an apartment complex parking lot at the above address. The deputy, dressed in clothing that clearly identified him as an HCSO deputy, approached his vehicle to investigate. The deputy then saw an unknown male suspect carrying a tire and a wheel.

The deputy made contact with the suspect and, as he attempted to detain him, an altercation ensued. The suspect fled the scene in a white, late model small to midsize Mercedes Benz SUV. The suspect is described only as a black male in his 20s, with shoulder length dreadlocks.

Anyone with information in this case or on the identity of the suspect is urged to contact the HPD Special Investigations Unit at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
