Mayor Woodfin has announced two appointments to the Birmingham Police Department command staff.

Lt. Rodarius Mauldin has been named Deputy Chief of Administration.

Jeffrey J. Brown, who retired as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Birmingham Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has been named Deputy Chief of Investigative Operations.

Brown served in multiple roles during his 22-year FBI career, including Unit Chief in the Counterterrorism Division in Washington, DC, Violent Crimes Task Force Coordinator in Michigan, and led interagency teams conducting critical threat missions overseas during the global war on terrorism. Prior to his FBI tenure, Brown served as a sheriff's deputy, police officer, and detective in Michigan and Arizona. He is the recipient of several commendations and two United States Attorney awards for leading criminal investigations.

Mauldin began his law enforcement career in 2005 with the Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole, where he served as a probation officer and investigator. He joined BPD in 2010, serving in various capacities over the years including as a patrol officer, community project coordinator, dignitary protection, detective and public information officer. He played a significant role while assigned to the Hiring and Recruiting Unit. Most recently he has served as Executive Assistant to the Assistant Chief of Police.
The Deputy Chief of Administration is a newly created role in the department's command staff.

Mauldin's appointment was effective immediately. Brown will join the department later this month.

Brown and Mauldin are part of the command staff led by Chief of Police Scott Thurmond and includes Deputy Chief of Special Operations Michael Pickett, and Deputy Chief of Patrol Operations Onree Pruitt.
