A prosecutor in Pavia, northern Italy, is investigating a vet and a pig producer over their possible role in spreading African Swine Fever (ASF), according to RAI Uno. In 2024, ASF outbreaks have worsened, with 24 farms in northern Italy affected, compared to 17 nationwide in the previous two years. Of those, 13 are in Pavia, a key pig-farming area. Others may also face investigation for failing to follow biosecurity regulations.

In ROI the throughput for week ending the 8th of September was 63,193 of which 2,136 were sows.
