Groundbreaking Event for Monument Trail Connection

The City of Grand Junction and Colorado West Land Trust (CWLT) will host a groundbreaking event on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 4:30 p.m. at the Lunch Loops Trailhead for the second phase of the Monument Trail connection.

The work to complete the trail connection has already begun and is expected to be completed by spring of 2025. Once finished, the Monument Trail will complete the ten-mile paved route of the Redlands Loop that connects the Monument Road, South Camp, Connected Lakes, and Audubon trails.

The Monument Trail serves as a recreational corridor among the greater trail system that provides a point of connectivity for multi-modal users. The Monument Trail is key Active Transportation Corridors for residents, commuters, and visitors. The extension of the Monument Trail aids in the access of the Lunch Loop area providing a safe path for all.

The Monument Trail funding was secured by the city and raised funds in partnership with CWLT and the Great Outdoors Colorado grant. The partnerships from the City of Grand Junction, CWLT, Mesa County, One Riverfront, Great Outdoors Colorado, and the Bureau of Land Management have assisted in this major milestone.
