Seven sites will benefit from 21st Century Community Learning Center grants to establish or expand community learning centers that provide students with enrichment opportunities when school is not in session.
The competitive grant application was open to local school systems, interagency, interdepartmental, community and faith-based or other private or public organizations, or a consortium of two or more of the proposing to provide services to students, and families of students, who primarily attend schools eligible for Title I schoolwide programs or schools that serve a high percentage of students from low-income families. 21st CCLC centers can be in elementary or secondary schools or other similarly accessible community facilities. 21st CCLC must provide a range of high-quality services to support student learning and development. These services may include tutoring, mentoring, homework help, academic enrichment, music, arts, sports, cultural activities, and community service opportunities. Also, 21st CCLC centers must serve the families of participating students through family literacy and engagement programs.
