"New York City and the people who call it home are resilient, and we will always remain steadfast in our commitment to the values that shape our communities. While I am disappointed by the outcome of the presidential election, we remain prepared to protect New Yorkers from any anti-democratic and unconstitutional attacks that threaten the people of our diverse city. Our city has consistently persevered in the face of adversity, including a previous Trump presidency. Standing together is how we emerge stronger, safeguarding our neighbors, our rights, and our shared values. New York City is home to rich immigrant communities who have built our city and power its economy, and we will continue to be a beacon for them. New Yorkers also overwhelmingly approved Proposition 1, which enshrines our reproductive and civil rights into our state constitution to ensure access to lifesaving healthcare is protected in New York. The Council will continue to prioritize the protection and strengthening of democracy, civil rights, and safety in our city, ensuring the dignity of all New Yorkers is upheld as we continue working towards a more equitable future for all."
