Two Years After Trump Helped Overturn Roe, AANHPI Voters Continue to Fight for the Care They Deserve Arrow

On the second anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson, DNC Deputy National Press Secretary Nina Raneses released the following statement:

"Because of Donald Trump's handpicked Supreme Court justices, women across the country continue to face a dangerous new reality in the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade - which has had a unique and devastating impact on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander women. From extreme abortion bans to criminalizing safe and effective medication abortion pills and threatening IVF access, MAGA Republicans have been relentless in their attacks on our health care choices for the past two years to further the extreme, anti-choice MAGA agenda. But make no mistake: Trump's anti-choice extremism is driving AANHPI voters to stand up and fight back. Our community knows there's only one ticket in this race fighting to restore access to the health care we deserve. The AANHPI vote was the margin of victory for President Biden and Vice President Harris, and we'll mobilize again to reelect them and defend our freedom to make our own health care decisions."

The anti-choice extremism unleashed after Dobbs has had a devastating and unique impact on AANHPI women.

National Partnership for Women & Families: "Abortion is difficult to access for many AAPI communities for myriad reasons including 'language barriers, cultural stigma, and low rates of insurance coverage.' These barriers - which vary across AAPI communities - have been exacerbated by abortion bans that have been or are likely to be enacted in the wake of the Dobbs ruling. "More than a quarter of Asian American and Pacific Islander women ages 15-49 live in the 26 states that have banned or are likely to ban abortion."

National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum: "Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women face unique barriers to abortion:

• AAPI working women are overrepresented in the frontline and service industry, often working without health insurance let alone paid medical or family leave.
• Sixty-six percent of Asian Americans and 30 percent of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders speak a language other than English at home and experience difficulties in accessing health care due to language barriers.
• AAPI women face an increased risk of criminalization for their pregnancy outcomes because of racial profiling rooted in anti-immigrant sentiments and sex-selective abortion bans.
• Nearly two-thirds of Asian Americans and one-fifth of Pacific Islanders are
• foreign-born and the criminalization of abortion heightens fears of adverse immigration consequences for undocumented individuals, refugees, and other immigrants regardless of their immigrant status."

The Guardian: "But since the US supreme court overturned Roe v Wade, which protected access to abortion, abortion restrictions have increased in the US. The Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC) called that decision 'disastrous' for south-east Asian Americans and other groups across the country.

"'Immigrants are at particular risk, with many now having to choose between an abortion or residency in the US,' said Quyên Đinh, SEARAC's executive director at the time."

An overwhelming majority of the AANHPI community want to safeguard access to abortion, and they'll be the margin of victory that helps reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris so they can defend our access to reproductive health care.

NBC News: "Health care is the top priority Asian American voters are taking to the ballot box, according to the 2022 Asian American Voter Survey; experts say a big reason for that is the overturning of of Roe v. Wade and the mounting restrictions on reproductive rights across the country. With studies finding that Asian American and Pacific Islanders show some of the highest levels of support for abortion rights, community leaders are expecting this issue to drive Asian Americans to the polls - many for the first time ever."

Associated Press: "With abortion rights poised to be one of the major issues in the 2024 election, a new poll shows that Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in the United States are highly supportive of legal abortion, even in situations where the pregnant person wants an abortion for any reason.

"The poll from AAPI Data and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that nearly 8 in 10 Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders think abortion should be legal in all or most cases. They're also supportive of federal government action to preserve abortion rights: Three-quarters of AAPI adults say Congress should pass a law guaranteeing access to legal abortions nationwide.

Trump can't stop bragging about killing Roe v. Wade, which has threatened the wellbeing and lives of women across the country by enabling extreme abortion bans.
