Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Langside Street, Archibald Street and Higgins Avenue

Winnipeg, MB- The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to three overnight / early morning fires.

Langside Street fire

At 6:12 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, a structure fire was discovered by a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crew in the 400 block of Langside Street. The crew had responded to a garbage bin fire in the same block when they noticed smoke coming from a vacant, two-storey house.

Additional WFPS crews were dispatched. Upon arrival on scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the property. They launched a defensive fire attack using hand lines and an aerial ladder truck, as it was not safe to enter. The fire was declared under control at 7:45 a.m.

There were no injuries reported.

Both the bin fire and the structure fire are under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time. The house experienced a previous fire on August 31, 2024.

Archibald Street fire

At 4:52 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, WFPS crews responded to a monitored fire alarm in a two-storey commercial structure in the 0 to 100 block of Archibald Street.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found light smoke coming from the building. They launched a fire attack from the interior, declaring the fire under control at 6:06 a.m. Once the fire was extinguished, they worked to ventilate smoke from the building.

Crews completed a search of the building, and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Higgins Avenue fire

At 10:34 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of an outdoor fire at a three-storey, commercial and residential mixed-use building in the 100 block of Higgins Avenue.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found that fire had extended to the building. They launched an offensive fire attack, using handlines to apply water to the fire. The fire was declared under control at 11:12 p.m.

Crews assisted several residents in evacuating the building. There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not currently available.
