On October 30, 2024, New York State Police arrested Yiguo Zheg, age 40, from Brooklyn, NY, for Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd degree (class "E" felony), and Grand Larceny 2nd degree (class "C" felony).
The investigation began when a 38-year-old male victim from Liverpool arrived at SP Syracuse who reported being scammed out of approximately $82,000 over the past month and a half. The victim was initially contacted by a female online who gained his trust and encouraged him to invest money with a company she recommended for trading money. The victim initially deposited $2,000 online, believing they were gaining profit.
The victim agreed to meet a courier in the Syracuse area to deliver large sums of money to be invested. He provided the courier with $30,000, and $50,000 on two separate occasions. After the victim realized he was not able to obtain his earnings, he reported the incident to police.
Yiguo Zheg was held at the Onondaga County Justice Center Pending arraignment.
