Planned Parenthood Applauds Increase in International Family Planning Funding in Senate Appropriations Bill

WASHINGTON, DC - Yesterday, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen's (D-NH) amendment in the Fiscal Year 2025 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPs) appropriations bill to increase funding for international family planning and reproductive health programs and the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency (UNFPA) passed in the Senate Appropriations Committee by a bipartisan vote of 16-13.

"While lawmakers opposed to sexual and reproductive health care in the House use the government funding process as a tool to restrict reproductive health care at home and abroad, our champions in Congress are fighting back against their anti-freedom agenda. We are thrilled that Sen. Shaheen's amendment to increase global funding for essential and basic health care passed in committee. Everyone deserves access to quality health care and the power to make decisions about their own bodies, lives, and futures - no matter who they are or where they live. Planned Parenthood Federation of America will continue to advocate for federal funding both here and globally that addresses the urgent need for essential health care."
