PennDOT Announces Detours for Juniata County Road Closures

08/30/2024

Clearfield, PA -Following significant storming overnight in Juniata County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT's) announced detour routes for a pair of closures in the area. Bridge inspection crews are on their way to inspect a pair of structures and estimate when the roadways will be reopened, but PennDOT expects at least one of the closures to be long-term.

Juniata County

  • Route 75 is closed between Routes 74 and 333 due to flooding at a bridge spanning Hunters Creek near Port Royal in Turbett Township. PennDOT implemented a detour using Route 850 westbound at Honeygrove, Route 35 northbound Reeds Gap, and Route 333 eastbound back to Route 75. PennDOT expects this closure
  • Route 235 is closed North of McAlisterville due to flooding at a bridge spanning Little Lost Creek in Fayette Township. PennDOT implemented a detour using Route 35 northbound and Route 104 (Snyder County) northbound to 522 southbound back to Route 235.

In addition to these two bridge closures, several roads remained closed due to downed trees in utility wires and roadway washouts.

  • Route 333 is closed between Port Royal and Thompsontown due to a roadway washout.
  • Route 2002 (Miller Hill Road) is closed at a box culvert spanning a tributary of Doe Run approximately two miles northeast of Mexico in Walker Township.
  • Route 2006 (Cedar Springs Road) is closed between Routes 2007 and 2009 due to down trees in wires. PennDOT anticipates reopening the road by 9:00 AM.
  • Route 2007 (Locust Run/Free Spring Church Road) is restricted to one lane due to downed trees in utility wires. PennDOT anticipates fully reopening the road by 9:00 AM.

PennDOT also cautions motorists to never drive through flooded roadways, as it takes just two feet of fast-moving water to float a car. Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorists who disregard traffic control signs.
