Congressman Cohen Announces University of Memphis Grant to Study the Transportation Challenges of Future Blue Oval City Workers

MEMPHIS - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis and Professor of Civil Engineering Dr. Sabya Mishra will receive a $75,000 grant to study the transportation challenges facing Ford's future Blue Oval City employees from the National Science Foundation. The Civic Innovation Challenge (CIVIC) Stage One project will look at the need for efficient public transit systems, including fixed-line buses and on-demand micro-transit services, meeting strict arrival times. Congressman Cohen submitted a letter of support for this project earlier this year.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Understanding the transportation needs of the future Blue Oval City workforce is a critical element of the project's success. I congratulate the University and Dr. Mishra for being awarded this prestigious grant award for such forward-thinking and innovative research benefitting our entire region. I'm pleased to have supported such an important endeavor for our region."

The project is a response to the Civic Innovation Challenge Program and is a collaboration between the National Science Foundation, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Energy.
