MoDOT: Project to Resurface and Upgrade Sidewalks on Various Routes in Greene & Christian County

To Begin the Week of December 16

Greene & Christian County - A project to upgrade sidewalks to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and resurface several routes in Greene & Christian County to begin the week of December 16, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

At times, driveways and business entrances may be gravel as crews remove sections of sidewalks that run across to install new pavement. Contractor crews, working with the businesses, are ensuring access to all businesses remain open during construction. Traffic can expect lane closures during resurfacing work.

Drivers are urged to use caution as they travel over gravel at times at driveways and business entrances to reach their destinations.

Crews to install a new Hawk Signal at Eldon and Chestnut Expressway. HAWK signals are traffic signals that allow pedestrians to cross the road safely. Find more information about Hawk signals here.

Here's a look at the project:

  • Resurfacing work will be done at the following locations in Springfield:
    • Loop 44/Chestnut Expressway between Scenic Avenue and west of Missouri Route 13/Kansas Expressway
    • Business 65/Chestnut Expressway between east of Loop 44/Glenstone Avenue and east of Outer 65/Eastgate Avenue
    • Business 65/ Chestnut Expressway on and off ramps at U.S. Route 65
    • Outer 65/Eastgate Avenue between north of Business 65/Chestnut Expressway and north of Cherry Street
    • Loop 44/Chestnut Expressway between Lullwood Avenue and Scenic Avenue
    • Loop 44/Chestnut Expressway between Missouri Route 13/Kansas Expressway and Loop 44/Glenstone Avenue
  • Contractor crews upgrading sidewalks to conform to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, including replacing sidewalk, removing sidewalks, installing crosswalks, curb, gutter and curb ramps and updating and installing pedestrian signals, pavement marking and updating signs
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) work will be done at the following locations:
    • Greene County
      • Loop 44/Chestnut Expressway between Business 65/Glenstone and east of Belcrest Avenue in Springfield
      • Route EE between Farm Road 105 and U.S. Roue 160/West Bypass in Springfield
      • Loop 44 between Route 66 Trail and Glenstone Avenue in Springfield
      • U.S. Route 160/West Bypass between I-44 and U.S. Route 60 in Springfield
      • U.S. Route 160/Campbell Avenue between U.S. Route 60 and Farm Road 157 south of Springfield
      • Eastgate Avenue between Route YY and Sunshine Street in Springfield
      • Outer 65 between Atalpa Street and Linwood Drive in Springfield
      • Route YY between U.S. Route 65 and Missouri Route 125 in Strafford
      • Route OO between just east of Farm Road 199 and Farm Road 245 near Strafford
      • Missouri Route 125 between Route DD and Route OO in Strafford
    • Christian County
      • Route MM between Missouri Route 14 and Firefly Road in Nixa
      • Route NN between County Line Road near Springfield and Business 65/Jackson Street in Ozark
      • Route J between Route NN and Route CC in Ozark
      • Route CC between Route J and Cheyenne Road in Ozark
      • Missouri Route 14 between 40th Street in Nixa and Route W in Ozark
  • Driveway concrete replaced in half sections and temporary gravel driveways will be provided to allow access to the property
  • Drivers may encounter flaggers and lane closures where crews are working

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.

Blevins Asphalt Construction Co, Inc., Mt. Vernon is doing the work for a low bid amount of $9.4 million.

The project is to be completed by June 30, 2026.
