Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, has announced the date for the joint inquest into the deaths of Abdelaziz Ibrahim, Thomas Neumann, Stanley Saunders and Adam Wood.
Four inmates of the Central East Correction Centre in Lindsay died from drug toxicity in separate incidents. Mr. Ibrahim, 25, died on August 16, 2022; Mr. Neumann, 21, died on March 5, 2021; Mr. Saunders, 59, died on January 2, 2021 and Mr. Wood, 35, died on August 23, 2020. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
The inquest is expected to last 13 days and hear from approximately 21 witnesses.
The inquest will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024. Dr. Geoffrey Bond will be the presiding officer and Jai Dhar will be the inquest counsel.
