FORT GREGG-ADAMS, Va. - As the last days of summer approach, commissary customers can still fire up their grills and enjoy significant savings on meats, sauces, condiments, side dishes, aluminum foil and pans, charcoal briquettes and more.

"Commissaries offer 30 to 40 percent off or more on the meats at their stores," said Navy Command Master Chief Mario Rivers, senior enlisted advisor to the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) director. "You cannot beat that deal. Our stock assortment as well as our flavor profiles have expanded over the past several years to keep pace with consumer trends, offering items of convenience as well as meal solutions. Fresh seafood is also available in most commissary meat departments."

Along with great savings, patrons are reminded they can also enjoy customizing their meat selections by purchasing whole subprimals at cost and then having them cut and packaged to their specifications at no additional charge.

Commissary meat departments carry a variety of USDA Prime, USDA Choice, and USDA Select retail cuts as well as Angus, organic, natural, value-added, plant-based and halal certified grass-fed beef. Pork, lamb, veal and bison are also offered to patrons at commissaries. Venison was also recently introduced in commissaries in Hawaii.

Current everyday savings on 80 percent lean ground beef and 93 percent lean ground beef provide shoppers with a guaranteed 35 percent savings over retail markets. Some commissaries may achieve as high as 45 percent savings, depending on the geographic area. As always, promotional items are selected for each area to provide comparable items to outside retail markets with significant savings and quality.

Continental U.S. commissaries currently offer the following savings:

  • Family Pack USDA choice chuck steaks, USDA choice flat iron steaks, USDA select strip loin steaks, 93 percent ground beef, and assorted bone-in pork chops at 15 cents per pound off of regular price
