Council to set 2025 meeting schedule next week

Published on October 08, 2024

The new City Council Meeting schedule will be voted on at the Fort Worth City Council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and will be published to the City's website once approved.

What's new: The schedule consists of 52 scheduled City Council meetings broken out as follows:

  • 15 Public Comment Meetings
  • 16 Council Work Sessions
  • 11 Zoning Council Meetings
  • 10 Daytime Council Meetings

Why it matters: The new schedule takes into consideration the following:

  • Staff time needed to closeout all FY24 Fiscal Year items prior to the city manager's retirement.
  • No meetings following a Monday holiday.
  • No meetings during Spring Break or the month of July.
  • Scheduling to accommodate National Night Out, National League of Cities and the Texas Municipal League Conferences.

In addition, the schedule also includes eight Budget Workshops for City Council on the following dates:

  • April 29
  • May 13
  • June 3 and 17
  • Aug. 5, 19 and 26
  • Sept. 9

Council will consider if to include a combination Work Session and Zoning Meeting on Jan. 14 and if to hold a Zoning Meeting on March 11 during National League of Cities, which is in Washington, D.C.

Go deeper: For residents attending City Council meetings, the City has various benefits to accommodate visitors.

Free parking: The City provides free parking vouchers for residents attending any daytime City Council meetings. You can receive a voucher at the desk located outside the City Council chambers on the second floor. Vouchers are available 30 minutes prior to the start of meetings until the end of the meeting.

Parking is available at the Houston Street Garage, 1200 Houston St. (across from the Fort Worth Convention Center). Meeting attendees will need to pull a parking ticket from the dispensing machine when entering the Houston Street Garage and bring that ticket to the desk where they will be handed a voucher that can be used to exit the garage. The free parking voucher is only available for that parking garage. For evening Council meetings, parking at downtown meters is free after 6 p.m.

How to sign up to speak at council meetings: While the New Council Chamber is under construction at New City Hall, all Council meetings will continue to be held at Old City Hall, at the north end of the building on the second floor, located at 200 Texas St.

Once the City Council meeting agenda is posted to the City's website on the Thursday prior, residents must register no later than two hours before the start of the meeting for both day and evening meetings.

Residents can register by:

  • First review the instructions on filling out a speaker card online. Next, open an agenda and fill out a speaker card online for any action item.
  • Call the City Secretary's Office at 817-392-6150.
  • Complete a speaker card in-person in the City Secretary's Office at New City Hall no later than two hours prior to the start of a meeting.
