First Saturday Movie Marathon to Feature Music of Freddie Mercury

Las Cruces Public Libraries has set its fall schedule for First Saturday Movie Marathon, and it begins Sept. 7 with motion pictures that include the music of Freddie Mercury and Queen.

Freddie Mercury was chosen for September in remembrance of his birthday, Sept. 5, 1946.

Movies will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, in the Roadrunner Room on the second floor of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave. Thomas Branigan Memorial Library is on Roadrunner Transit Route 1.

The Sept. 7 marathon begins with a film based on a classic comic strip starring Sam Jones saving the world. This movie is rated PG and runs 110 minutes. The second movie stars Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery and asks the question, "Who wants to live forever?" It begins at 12:30 p.m. is rated R and is also 110 minutes. The third movie is a recent award-winning biopic about the rise of Queen through their performance at Live Aid in 1985. It begins at 2:30 p.m., is rated PG-13 and is 134 minutes long.

The First Saturday Movie Marathon is free and open to the public. Moviegoers are welcome to bring light snacks.

Upcoming First Saturday Movie Marathons will include a trio of disaster movies in October. In November, the Movie Marathon will feature Tyler Perry's Madea and her family. For December, the First Saturday Movie Marathon will include animated films.
