Tiffin University Announces Launch of Peace Project

Tiffin University proudly announces the launch of the Peace Project, an initiative aimed at fostering global harmony and unity within the Tiffin community and beyond. This endeavor commemorates the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of the Declaration and Program of Action on a Culture of Peace, as well as the UN's Peace Pole Project.

The Peace Project invites students, faculty, staff and community members to participate in and celebrate the University's new Peace Garden. At the heart of the garden will be a peace symbol composed of bricks, each etched with a country's name and the word "peace" in its native language. These bricks may also represent groups such as people with disabilities, the Roma, or indigenous nations. Arranged side by side, they symbolize a collective hope for peace, with bricks from North and South Korea placed adjacently, for example.

The Peace Garden will feature three peace poles adorned with the phrase "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in the world's 12 most spoken languages. These poles will encircle the garden, each equipped with a solar panel to illuminate them as beacons of hope in the dark.

The brick-laying ceremony for the Peace Garden is scheduled for September 27 at 1 p.m., located at the intersection of Wall and Miami Streets. The public is invited.

Dr. Elizabeth Athaide-Victor, Professor of Forensic Psychology and Advisor for the Peace Project expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "The Peace Garden stands as a testament to our commitment to global peace and unity. With the community's participation, we aim to create a symbol of hope that transcends borders and languages."

TU President Dr. Lillian Schumacher also highlighted the significance of the initiative, saying, "Tiffin University's initiative to create a Peace Garden not only enriches our community but also underscores the importance of peace and understanding in our world. I encourage everyone in the Dragon Nation and the Tiffin community to join in and be a part of this important project."

TU senior forensic psychology major, Marie Seaver added, "The Peace Garden is a great way for students to get involved and actively stand up for something they believe in. I am proud to be part of a community that actively promotes peace and inclusivity."
