University of Saint Mary Receives NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Award with Gold Status

(Leavenworth, Kan.) - The University of Saint Mary was one of 209 institutions to be awarded the Champions of Character Five-Star Award from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The NAIA's Champions of Character program emphasizes character development amongst student-athletes. Saint Mary was one of the 108 higher education programs to receive a perfect Gold score.
"Earning Gold status reminds us that we are moving in the right direction," USM Vice President of Athletics Rob Miller said. "It's a collaborative effort when we receive recognition like that, and receiving it year after year continues to demonstrate our coaches' and student-athletes' commitment to their development beyond the field."
Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earn points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition, and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.
