Discussion between JN Barrot and the Lebanese PM (28.09.24)

This afternoon, the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, spoke with the Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati.

The Minister expressed France's grave concern about developments in Lebanon over the last few hours.

France calls for the immediate cessation of Israeli strikes on Lebanon and condemns all indiscriminate action against civilians. France opposes all ground operations in Lebanon.

It calls on the other stakeholders, and Hezbollah and Iran in particular, to refrain from any action which may lead to further destabilization and regional escalation.
The safety and protection of civilians, both in Lebanon and Israel, must be guaranteed.

The French authorities are liaising with the Lebanese authorities and French partners in the region to prevent any escalation. Messages have been sent to all parties to exercise the utmost restraint.

The French diplomatic network is working to ensure the safety of French nationals in the region, which is our priority.
