Love for our Rockhampton Regional Libraries is on the rise with record-breaking program participation, visitor numbers, and loan activity.

Recent figures submitted to the State Library of Queensland highlighted an impressive increase of almost 30% in library visitor numbers across the four branches, totalling 214,860 visits in the last financial year.

Deputy Mayor and Communities, Culture and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said this is the first time since 2019 that visitor numbers have surpassed 200,000.

"Time and again, our libraries have proven to be invaluable community assets that offer a rich array of programs and services for everyone of all ages," Deputy Mayor said.

"There is so much to do at our local libraries, from accessing the History Centre, perusing a variety of books and resources, to unleashing your creative side with origami and crafternoon workshops.

"Our libraries offer a variety of programs with open sessions and drop-in tables, so you can visit whenever it's convenient for you."

New programs like Imagination Station, On the Verandah, FunFit, and Switch™ Gaming, coupled with the ongoing partnership with Rockhampton Zoo for storytime sessions, have played a major role in boosting library participation.

"We've seen program engagement numbers increase to more than 59,000 people, which is the highest number on record and a 37% increase from last year," Deputy Mayor said.

"An impressive five out of eight months this year saw our libraries host over 6,000 program attendees each month.

"It's fantastic to see such strong participation in our events, which speaks to the vital role our libraries play in the community.

"This is thanks to the hard work, passion and dedication of our amazing library staff who provide such a diverse range of library services and programs for the community."

Alongside a boost in visitor and program engagement, the total number of loans increased by more than 12% to reach 462,766, while digital loans saw a significant 30% rise.

"We are always looking for ways to innovate and expand the programs and resources we offer," Deputy Mayor said.

"Having digital resources accessible online is one of the ways we're broadening our engagement with the local community.

"Even in the digital age however, our community still values the personalised help our libraries staff provide, with a record number of 70,537 reference, readers' advisory and technical assistance queries".

Whether you're borrowing a book, attending an event, or simply visiting a quiet space, the libraries are here for everyone.
