HHSC Recognizes Work of Ombuds in October

Ombuds Day, observed the second Thursday in October each year, is an international celebration of those who work as public advocates and investigate citizen complaints or work within organizations to assist with dispute resolution.

At the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, the Office of the Ombudsman collaborates with team members, program areas and the people HHSC serves to make sure policy is followed and expectations are met. HHSC ombudsmen serve as an impartial resource to help Texans understand policies and work with HHSC programs to address and resolve concerns.

In addition to helping clients, the Office of the Ombudsman is responsible for collecting and analyzing all contact data to identify trends. By Dec. 1 of each year, the Office of the Ombudsman publishes an annual report describing ombudsman work, contact data, trends or systemic issues, and recommendations made to programs and their responses.
