Contact:

Oʻahu motorists are asked to plan accordingly for increased traffic starting Monday, August 26, especially in the morning hours, when the fall 2024 semester begins for an estimated 39,000 University of Hawaiʻi students at six campuses.

The area around UH Mānoa, including both directions of the H-1 Freeway and the surrounding surface streets, is expected to see an increase in traffic as classes start for about 19,000 students.

There will also be an increase in traffic in the areas around Leeward Community College, Kapiʻolani Community College, Honolulu Community College, UH West Oʻahu and Windward Community College.

Generally, traffic is heavier for the first two weeks of the semester, however, it is expected to be lighter than pre-pandemic years as more courses are online or partially online and more UH employees are teleworking up to two days a week.

UH encourages students, faculty, staff and administrators to consider alternative modes of transportation including The Bus, the Skyline rail system, as well as bicycling, walking, skateboarding, etc. for those who are able and live near their campus.

UH appreciates the patience of the motorists and residents in the surrounding communities.
