Webinar today; Texas A&M seeks proposals for nuclear reactor construction

The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) is seeking proposals from qualified candidates to construct a commercial nuclear reactor on the university's RELLIS campus in Bryan, Texas.

Interested parties are welcome to attend a virtual preproposal conference today, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. (EDT). Information about this conference, including a link to participate, can be obtained via email to [email protected].

Proposal deadline: TAMUS issued a formal request for proposals for its RELLIS Nuclear Reactor Project on August 30. Proposals are due before 2:00 p.m. (CDT) on September 26. Submission instructions can be found in section 2.3 of the RFP.

Energy proving ground: The RELLIS Nuclear Reactor Project is envisioned as "nuclear energy proving ground spanning 150-200 acres" on which companies will be able "to test and develop at scale the latest reactor technologies."

Qualified candidates: According to the RFP, candidates who are interested in submitting proposals for building the reactor "should be capable of performing all aspects of a reactor demonstration project, such as assessing site feasibility and preparation, licensing, integration with ERCOT [Electric Reliability Council of Texas] grid, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and possible decommissioning of new nuclear reactor(s) as dispatchable electric generating facilities . . . on System owned property."
