Press Release: ACLU Launches Voter Education Campaign Ahead of Georgia State House Race Focused on Reproductive Rights

ATLANTA -The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and ACLU of Georgia announced a $300,000 campaign, paid by the ACLU Voter Education Fund, to inform Georgia voters about the critical reproductive rights issues at stake in this year's state house races. This initiative will provide essential information about where candidates stand on reproductive rights like abortion, in vitro fertilization (IVF), and access to contraception.

The campaign will include six weeks of digital, radio, and mail ads highlighting the stances of candidates on reproductive rights in House Districts 105, 108 and 145. While the campaign does not support, oppose, or endorse specific candidates, its primary goal is to give voters access to clear and factual information about their choices at the ballot box.

"Reproductive freedom is a crucial issue in Georgia, and this election will have significant implications for our state's future," said Andrea Young, executive director, ACLU of Georgia. "Our focus is on empowering voters with the facts, ensuring that they understand where their candidates stand on reproductive healthcare so they can make informed decisions when voting."

This $300,000 effort is projected to reach around 65,000 voters across Georgia through targeted outreach and educational initiatives. In addition to the ad campaign, candidate questionnaires have been sent to all state house candidates to assess their positions on reproductive health, with results being made publicly available ahead of the election.

The campaign is part of the ACLU's $25 million effort to safeguard and advance fundamental rights during the 2024 election, with a laser focus on protecting and expanding abortion and voting rights up and down the ballot. These efforts in Georgia are part of this broader initiative to protect and advance reproductive rights, two areas central to ensuring the health, well-being, and autonomy of Georgia's citizens.
