The Colorado VMA (CVMA) held its annual meeting from September 5-8 in Westminster.

Awards

Veterinarian of the Year

Dr. Amy Estrada

Dr. Amy Estrada (Colorado State '98), Colorado Springs. Dr. Estrada practices at Animal ER Care-Central in Colorado Springs, where she was instrumental in establishing an emergency exotics department. She was honored for her expertise, commitment to innovation, determination to address unmet needs, and compassionate approach to both animals and their owners.

Distinguished Service Award

Dr. Henry Kagerer

Dr. Henry Kagerer (Colorado State '72), Clifton, and posthumously awarded to Dr. Stuart "Randy" Vanderhurst (California-Davis '65). Dr. Kagerer served as a professor of veterinary technology at Colorado Mountain College prior to retirement. During his tenure, he helped establish a leading veterinary technology program.

Dr. Vanderhurst served as director of the veterinary technology program at Colorado Mountain College. He helped define the role of veterinary technicians in Colorado and was known for his innovative teaching methods, passion for student success, and contributions to the profession.
