Imagine a Day Without Water

Imagine. You wake up, turn on the faucet to brush your teeth, and nothing comes out. Shower. Same. No water. No coffee! Drinking water plays a crucial role in our lives, yet the infrastructure needed to maintain its delivery to our homes and businesses is often out of sight, and therefore, out of mind. Millions of Americans take water service for granted every day, but everyone should be concerned about the future of these aging systems.

On Thursday, October 17th, the City of Napa invites you to "Imagine a Day Without Water," the tenth annual National Day of Action to raise awareness about and appreciation for our most essential resource. A City Council proclamation and social media posts throughout the week will illustrate how proactive investments and a dedicated team of employees ensure that safe, clean drinking water is available in Napa 24/7. Thanks to support from our elected officials and ratepayers, the City will increase water capital improvement program investments to $8 million per year by 2028 while continuing to provide service at some of the lowest rates in the Bay Area. These new funds will help replace critical water mains, 140 miles of which are over 60 years old. Funds are also needed for major upgrades to the 43-year-old Hennessey Treatment Plant, including an ozonation process that will improve water taste and odor.

Without reliable water, our families and communities cannot thrive, and our nation's public health, safety, and economic prosperity are compromised. Investing in water is investing in a future where no American, no Napan, will have to experience a day without water - or that morning cup of coffee!
