Christopher D. English ‘77 Memorial Scholarship

"You can make your life contributions significant and meaningful by upholding your moral convictions and doing the right thing."

Tiffin University alumnus Christopher English, a 1977 graduate, embraced these principles at work and in his community. Following his passing, his widow Connie and their three children - Abby, Bobby and Jacob - continue to uphold his legacy. The Christopher D. English '77 Memorial Scholarship was created by his family in 2021 at Tiffin University to support students and honor his positive influence on others.

Chris was born in California but moved with his family to Detroit, Michigan as an infant before settling in Port Clinton, Ohio. He cherished the lakeside environment and always quietly offered assistance to those around him. In Tiffin, Chris and his wife Connie raised their family; she worked as a speech pathologist in local schools while Chris devoted his entire career to Webster Industries, working there for over 40 years. It was at Webster that Chris developed a close bond with Andrew Felter, current President of the Tiffin University Board of Trustees.

In his speech at the 2006 Tiffin University master's degree commencement, Chris encouraged the graduates to "start paying it forward and not look for payback." He also urged them to "ensure the same quality of life that previous generations have enjoyed," saying that "we need to be involved in our local and state governments, as well as in our churches and community organizations" and should be "willing to make investments in the future."

He undoubtedly embodied this message and his scholarship acts as a continual reminder of a humble man who put the needs of others before his own in an effort to do the right thing by improving the lives of future generations.
