Chamber Partners with National Grid for “Day of Service”

On a beautiful September morning, nearly 40 volunteers assembled on Minthorne Street in front of Flagship Brewery. For a third year, National Grid partnered with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce on a "Day of Service" to clean and beautify the streets of Downtown Staten Island.

Before heading out to Bay Street in St. George, Tompkinsville, and Stapleton to pick up trash and clean tree beds, the team was led in a lively set of stretching exercises to loosen up. National Grid volunteers were joined by representatives from the Borough President's "clean team" and Council Member Kamillah Hanks' office.

"I am proud of our team and the dedication they showed in order to help this business community and support the Chamber in their ongoing efforts," said Carol Decina, National Grid's Manager of Staten Island Public Affairs, and Chairwoman of the Chamber.

Chamber President Linda Baran commented, "We're so glad to once again partner with Chamber member National Grid on this initiative. As we've seen, these volunteers come to work! We're grateful to them and all at National Grid for their ongoing support of the small businesses that keep our community humming."

After a morning of hard work, volunteers returned to Flagship Brewery, where they were treated to pizza and soft drinks from local restaurant Pier 76.

With over 30 bags of trash collected, the positive impact on the community was big and immediate. Mission accomplished!
