Scott Announces $4.4 Million For Hiring Firefighters in the City of Chesapeake

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) announced $4,470,313 in grant funding for the City of Chesapeake to hire more firefighters. This funding was awarded through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program, a grant program through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, front line firefighters available in their communities.

"Firefighters and other emergency personnel are essential to keeping our communities safe," said Congressman Scott. "This grant funding to the City of Chesapeake will ensure their fire department is properly staffed and they can quickly and efficiently respond to any emergencies. This will improve outcomes for residents and maintain safety in our neighborhoods."

Congressman Scott wrote a letter in support of the City of Chesapeake's application for this grant. A copy of the letter can be found by CLICKING HERE.
