Mayor LaFrance received community-driven transition reports

Anchorage, AK－Mayor LaFrance received the community-driven transition reports from the three core priority transition groups: Good Government, Safe Streets & Trails, and Building Our Future.

These reports are the product of multiple weeks of collaborative work from community members and will help inform the priorities of the administration.

"Our team has begun the review and analysis of these well-informed and thoughtful recommendations," stated Mayor LaFrance. "We are sharing broadly and engaging with our internal team and the whole community because we recognize it will take all of us working together to drive our community forward."

Nearly 200 community members attended a public open house to provide feedback on the recommendations.

Mayor LaFrance has shared these reports with all Municipal directors and employees and invited feedback. The team continues to review the information shared and will incorporate suggestions from the reports into a workplan.

"I want to acknowledge and thank the facilitators, core team leaders and the hundreds of community members who came together to form these action-oriented reports," stated Mayor LaFrance. "These individuals volunteered their time and energy to provide insightful and solutions-based strategies for the benefit of Anchorage."

Background:

On June 13, 2024, Mayor-Elect LaFrance announced eighteen community leaders who would help guide the transition efforts on the administration's top priorities: Good Government, Safe Streets & Trails, and Building Our Future.

Good Government: Mike Abbott, Eleanor Andrews, Jane Angvik, Jennifer Johnston, and Jasmin Smith

Safe Streets & Trails: Bob Doehl, LeeAnn Garrick, Walt Monegan, Beth Nordlund, and Dave Rittenberg

Building Our Future: Sheldon Fisher, Carol Gore, Joelle Hall, Radhika Krishna, Aaron Leggett, Bill Popp, Ivy Spohnholz, and Jonathan Taylor

The community leaders connected broadly to build diverse and robust teams to tackle the work. Some of the top priorities were broken into sub-categories.

The teams met three times and worked through a process of: Refining the Vision, Establishing the Current Conditions and Challenges, and finally developing and prioritizing a proposed Action and Implementation Plan.

Safe Streets & Trails and Building Our Future followed the same facilitation process and combined their reports. Due to the nature of the Good Government work, their team followed a different path, and their report reflects this approach.
