Durbin, Welch, Shaheen Meet With Members Of The Ukrainian Parliament

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Co-Chair of the Senate Ukraine Caucus, hosted members of the Ukrainian Parliament to discuss continued Congressional support for Ukraine. The members visiting also serve on Ukraine's parliamentary delegation in the Council of Europe. In addition to Durbin, U.S. Senators Peter Welch (D-VT) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) also joined.

"More than two years after Putin began his brutal, criminal invasion, Ukraine remains on the frontlines of democracy. While I'm pleased Congress came together to pass a vital aid package to help our Ukrainian allies a few months ago, we must continue to push for the resources and equipment necessary to prevail against Russian tyranny," said Durbin. "During yesterday's meeting, our Ukrainian allies reiterated how important U.S. support is and how crucial the NATO Alliance is at this moment."

"Since Russia's illegal, full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than two years ago, international assistance efforts have demonstrated the true strength of democracy. We heard unity and clarity from our Ukrainian partners in yesterday's meeting. We must provide Ukraine the resources to defend their country but also the tools to win the war," said Welch. "The United States will keep supporting this crucial fight against authoritarianism and do everything we can to ensure Ukraine's secure future."

"As we reiterated again with our Ukrainian partners: in the face of ongoing Russian aggression, the United States and Ukraine stand together," said Shaheen. "A strong and free Ukraine-and a prosperous Europe-are in the best economic and security interests of the United States, and I look forward to maintaining resounding bipartisan support for Ukraine now and as it works to rebuild."

In April, Congress passed the national security supplemental, which provided critical aid for Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, and Taiwan.
