Overnight, single lane closures of I-70 in Columbia planned this week

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - One lane of Interstate 70 in Columbia will close overnight this week. Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be placing concrete barriers in preparation for work off the shoulder.

Starting the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 6, a single lane of I-70 between Boone County Route B (Paris Road) and U.S. Route 63 will be closed 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Construction crews will begin placing the concrete barriers on the shoulder of eastbound I-70 then move to westbound I-70. This work is expected to wrap up overnight Saturday, Nov. 9.

All work is weather-permitting and subject to change.

Motorists should be prepared for various lane closures and ongoing construction work through 2027 as part of Improve I-70: Columbia to Kingdom City. Drivers are reminded to slow down and pay attention in work zones. Buckle Up. Phone Down.

MoDOT's Statewide Improve I-70 Program, Improve I-70: Columbia to Kingdom City, will add a third lane of travel in each direction to the 20-mile stretch of I-70 between U.S. Route 63 (Columbia) and Route 54 (Kingdom City). This $405 million fixed-cost contract includes new pavement on all three lanes of I-70 and will also make interchange improvements to the I-70 interchanges at Route 63 and Route 54. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2027.

Missouri's FY2024 budget from the General Assembly signed into law by Gov. Mike Parson provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue for the costs to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
