Congresswoman Barbara Lee Celebrates Funding for Oakland Zoo and Children's Fairyland

Oakland, CA-Congresswoman Barbara Lee(CA-12) today celebrated the Institute for Museum and Library Sciences' announcement of over $400,000 in grants for the Oakland Zoo and Children's Fairyland. The Museum of Library Sciences supports museums by funding lifelong learning programs and community engagement efforts for museums across the country. Their investments in Oakland will fund education and youth outreach programs for school-aged children in the East Bay.

"I am proud to announce that the Oakland Zoo and Children's Fairyland will receive over $400,000 for climate conservation efforts, pre-kindergarten readiness programs and youth engagement," said Congresswoman Barbara Lee. "Both of these investments will ensure that young people in our district are empowered and prepared for academic success and so they can be the leaders of tomorrow. I look forward to continuing to find opportunities to invest in our young people's future, both in our communities and in the classroom."

"We are thrilled with the opportunity to extend our reach outside of the Zoo and engage Oakland middle school youth in a participatory science program. With this funding, we will center youth voices in conservation in ways that we hope will improve our community," says Megan Sweet, Vice President of Learning and Engagement, and Miranda Mosley, Coordinator of School and Community Programs at Oakland Zoo.
