UNESCO Peru at COP16

At UNESCO, we promote education as part of the climate agenda to empower local communities and indigenous peoples in the conservation of biodiversity and in responding to climate challenges. We also encourage connectivity and integrated territorial management, recognizing that the role of adolescents and young people is vital in the fight against climate change.

In Peru, in UNESCO-designated sites such as Biosphere Reserves, Geoparks, and sites of natural and cultural heritage, we work hand in hand with indigenous organizations and local communities to integrate their knowledge into territorial governance. We do this by ensuring their rights are respected and acknowledging the role of indigenous women as guardians of this knowledge and leaders in the protection of biodiversity in their territories.

We are pleased to announce the participation of UNESCO Peru at the Conference of the Parties (COP16), whose theme this year is "Peace with Nature." Alongside our partners in Peru, we will engage in events and actions that reaffirm our commitment to the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and the need for coordinated actions to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
