Campbell Law names new Associate Deans for academic, student affairs

RALEIGH- Campbell Law School will welcome two new Associate Deans to replace the current Associate Dean for Academic Affairs position on Aug. 1, 2024, Dean J. Rich Leonard has announced.

"I have come to the conclusion that the job as currently configured has grown too unwieldy for one person," Leonard explained. "We are a much larger school now. The issues students bring are more nuanced and complex, and the regulatory framework within which we work, both within our University and more broadly within the accreditation standards, grows more complicated daily.

"After consulting with a number of faculty, staff and fellow deans, I have determined to move forward with two equivalent Associate Dean positions. The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs will be exclusively focused on curriculum and faculty. The Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Academic Success will be in charge of all of the academic issues surrounding our students, save in the rare instance where a student has a dispute with a faculty member. I believe this model will serve us well going forward."

Professor John DeStefanowill be the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and Sha Hinds-Glick will be the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Academic Success, Leonard said.

Professor DeStefano teaches Wills & Trusts, Estate Planning and Drafting and Federal Income Tax. He serves on the Trusts Committee for the General Statutes Commission of the North Carolina General Assembly, and in 2024 was appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina to the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism. He attended the University of Florida, where he earned a B.S. in finance, a M.S. in finance, a J.D. with a certificate in estate planning and an LL.M. in taxation.

As Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Professor DeStefano will serve as the chief academic officer within the law school, reporting directly to the Dean. He will be responsible for addressing all academic matters, including oversight of the academic curriculum, calendar and course teachings.

In her new role as Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Academic Success, Hinds-Glick will continue to provide individual counseling and academic guidance for students as well as administer group programs and seminars designed for academic enhancement. She also manages the Bar Success program she launched in 2010 for all Campbell graduates and alumni to ensure that all graduates are prepared for the rigors of the bar exam and to maintain the tradition of high bar passage rates for which Campbell Law is known.

Prior to joining the Campbell Law administration in 2010 as Director of Academic Support and Bar Success, Hinds-Glick ran a private practice in Dayton, Ohio, with a focus on criminal and juvenile law. She also served as an adjunct at the University Of Dayton School Of Law in the areas of academic support and bar passage. While in Ohio, she worked as a Guardian ad Litem, and volunteered legal services to the local women's domestic violence shelter. Hinds-Glick earned her law degree from University of Dayton School of Law where she graduated with honors.

Outgoing Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dan Tilly, who has served in his current capacity since 2020, announced he will be leaving the law school to return to his alma mater Baylor Law School's Practice Court Program effective Aug. 1.

"In my view, Professor Tilly has performed brilliantly throughout his tenure and I look forward to continuing teaching with him as part of Baylor Law's Academy of the Advocate in St Andrews, Scotland, each summer," Leonard added.
