UWL theatre production selected for Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival

The UW-La Crosse Department of Theatre and Dance production of "What the Constitution Means to Me" has been selected to perform at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (ACTF) Region 3 competition in Madison, Wisconsin, in January 7-11.

"What the Constitution Means to Me" by Heidi Schrek was one of eight productions chosen from over 50 college entries from the five-state region, including Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Western Ohio.

"What the Constitution Means to Me" is a hilarious, hopeful, and achingly-human new play. A pay-what-you-can open rehearsal will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6 in Toland Theatre, Lowe Center for the Arts. All donation proceeds will help defray the cost of traveling to the festival. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

About the play

Direct from Broadway, Playwright Heidi Schreck's boundary-breaking play breathes new life into the Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the U.S. In this hopeful new play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives.
