City of Grand Junction Launches 4th and 5th Street Pilot Project

The City of Grand Junction will launch a pilot project designed to reduce speeds on 4th and 5th Streets which will increase safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. The blocks between North Ave. and Ute Ave. on 4th and 5th Streets will undergo a transformation into a one-lane, one-direction street beginning in July.

The first phase of this project includes minor concrete curb work, chipseal, and restriping prior to the launch of the pilot. During the pilot, vehicle traffic will be narrowed to one way, one lane on each street (4th and 5th). A bike lane protected by parallel parking will be constructed on the right-hand side and diagonal parking will remain on the left-hand side of the roadway.

Community members can provide feedback about the project at EngageGJ.org later this month. More information.

The design being implemented in the pilot is the result of feedback provided in the 4th and 5th Street Feasibility Study conducted in 2022 with additional input from businesses and residents in 2023.
