Unemployment rate still under 4%
In the observed quarter, there were 35,000 unemployed persons, 1.5% fewer than in the first quarter of 2024 and 5.7% fewer than in the same quarter last year.
Among the unemployed, there were more men (54%) than women (46%). Compared to the first quarter of 2024, the number of unemployed men increased by 10%, while the number of unemployed women decreased by 13%.
The unemployment rate has been below 4% since the fourth quarter of 2022. In the observed quarter, it was 3.4%, about the same as in the previous quarter. Compared to the same period of the previous year, it decreased by 0.2 of a percentage point.
The number of employed persons slightly lower than in the previous quarter
In recent quarters and months, both register and survey sources have recorded a decrease in the number of employed persons. According to the survey sources, there were 998,000 employed persons in the observed quarter, i.e. 0.5% fewer than in the previous quarter, but 0.1% more than in the same period last year.
Compared to the previous quarter, the number of employed men decreased by 4,000 or 0.8% and the number of employed women by 1,000 or 0.2%. Nevertheless, there were more employed men (55%) than women (45%).
The employment rate also decreased. In the second quarter of 2024, it was 56.6%, 0.4 of a percentage point lower than in the previous quarter and 0.3 of a percentage point lower than in the same period last year.
One of the goals of sustainable development indicators is employment rate of persons aged 20-64 above 75% by the year 2030. In the second quarter of 2024, it was 78.5%.

85.0% of employed persons were employees, 12.9% were self-employed and 2.1% helped on the family farm or in the family business. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of employees increased by 0.6%, and the number of self-employed by 1.6%.
Share of precarious work is increasing
Precarious work was performed by 65,000 persons in employment, which was 4% more than in the previous quarter and less than 1% more than in the same period last year. The share of persons in employment performing precarious forms of work was 6.6% and it also increased compared to the previous quarter (by 0.3 of a percentage point).
The largest share of the precarious work is done in the form of student work (39%), followed by agency work (32%), self-employed who do not employ and work mainly for one client (19%) and involuntarily employed part-time (11%).
