City of Palatka Invites Youth to Apply for Ambassador Program

The City of Palatka is now accepting applications from students for its Youth Ambassador Program (YAP). We invite students to apply and participate in this enriching opportunity.

Program Overview: The City of Palatka Youth Ambassador Program (YAP) is designed to foster open and positive communication between City government and the youth of our community. Selected students will collaborate with the offices of the Mayor, City Commissioners, City Manager, City Clerk, and various City department directors. The program aims to develop leadership skills, civic responsibility, and public service awareness among youth.

Program Highlights: Educational and Awareness Programs: Youth Ambassadors will create a community service project addressing issues such as drug and gang education, anti-bullying, underage drinking and driving, and gun violence.

City Engagement:Students will attend city commission meetings, shadow city departments, volunteer at city events, and assist with community service projects.

Leadership Opportunities:Participants may attend events like the annual State League of Cities Conference as Youth Delegates and the State Legislative session as representatives of Palatka.

Youth Ambassador Program Application Requirements:

  • Applications must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  • A letter of recommendation from a school administrator, guidance counselor, or other faculty member is required.
  • The program is open to high school students entering 9th to 12th grades in August 2024.
  • Students must live in Palatka and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Selection Process:A Commissioner, City HR Director, and City Clerk will review and interview applicants.

Service Hours:Participation in the program counts towards the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship service hour requirements.
