OROVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT TAKES ACTION TO PROTECT ELDERLY RESIDENT FROM FINANCIAL FRAUD

Oroville, CA-On Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, at approximately 10 AM, the Oroville Police Department received a distressing call regarding an 84-year-old elderly resident who had been defrauded of nearly $6,000. Municipal Law Enforcement Officers (MLE) were quickly dispatched to handle the situation. Understanding the gravity of the crime, officers immediately enlisted the help of the Oroville Police Felony Investigations Unit to further the investigation.

Due to the tireless efforts of municipal law enforcement officers and detectives, it was uncovered that the stolen funds had been taken through the unauthorized use of the victim's bank cards by the suspect, whom the victim knew. Investigators swiftly gathered essential information, such as surveillance footage and payment receipts, to identify the suspect. After obtaining arrest and search warrants, the Oroville Police Department arrested 32-year-old Stephanie Kincaid of Oroville on October 16, 2024. Kincaid now faces felony charges of grand theft, fraudulent use of credit cards, and grand theft from an elderly adult.

The Oroville Police Department commends the rapid and effective collaboration that led to Kincaid's arrest. This swift action underscores the department's dedication to protecting vulnerable community members, especially the elderly, from financial exploitation.

Chief of Police Bill LaGrone acknowledged the teamwork behind this successful resolution: "Protecting Oroville's senior citizens is a top priority. We will continue to pursue those who prey on the elderly and ensure they are held accountable for their actions."
